honestly, beyonce has the best vocals bt the way she flows in some of her songs shows dt she isnt feeling them. She should start writing again(if she really did before bt i hated most of her old songs) so dt she could truly flow wit d vocals nd feelings(ie making it closer and personal)

Hi, Mr. Black.

I'm a thesis student from Galicia (Spain).

Among the sea of documents I'm researching (about popular music) it's so refreshing to hear a voice like yours...

I'm a old MOJO subscriber, but, of course, your tone is so different here.

Your recount of the music industry, copyright, music publishers and musicians "too busy" beats so many journal articles and "academic" books...

Thanks for pouring your heart out; my heartfelt and unashamed thanks.

I think this Bangladesh went one step further - he didn\'t even 'have the time'; to think of a proper name for himself!

PS: Invalid "secutiry" (sic) code"? Looks like even you can't read them...

Wow, Ann, way to miss the point entirely; someone reading comprehension is in order.

The whole point of the article has nothing to do with Beyonce's "integrity as a writer," or lack thereof. And, the author didn't say women can't write, either.

I disagree with the "artists have little or no say when they first start" statement, too - I can think of several artists who appear to have made the album they wanted to make, starting new. Perhaps it's not something that happens in the R&B category much, but that's not universal...

Further, it's appalling to say "well, she's so popular now she doesn't NEED to write her own stuff - she just gets songs sent to her."

Well, yeah, but if she were really a writer she'd be driven to write her own stuff regardless. As you say, people can run out of ideas, but again, it's not a given that artists give up writing because they can get someone else to do it.

I think artistes who claim to write or co-write the songs are being disingenuous,in the case of Beyonce ,her manager/father is said to insist that his daughter gets songwriting credits even if she did not write the song,an example being "If i were a boy" credits Beyonce as co-writer,the guys who did write it complained and the matter was settled out of court.
Now Beyonce is a fantastic performer,so why take credit for something she did not write.....money I guess

Hi

I understand where you are coming from, however, women are just as gifted when it comes to writing songs as men.
No one questions Missy Elliott, Keri Hilsons or Christina Milians skills.

If you look deeper you will know that these artists became succesful because they could write well and were talented, wich made them different to the whole bunch of Britneys and Christinas out there.

When they start off, artists have little or no say , as they progress they can take charge in everything and in Beyonces case lean back and relax.

Additionally, Bangladesh only cowrote 2 of her songs and not the greatest hits, so its not exactly like he has insight into the whole process.

All he is saying that due to her success Beyonce does not even have to write her songs because there will be hundreds of them waiting for her, as opposed to when she first started.

As you know, best tracks will go to most popular artist at the time, and you need to work harder at first if you want to achieve something, whereas she is at a point where she does not need to worry about it as things are just given to her on a golden plate

Thanks for the comment Ann.

You're clearly very fond of Beyonce.

The point I was trying to make, however, is much wider than whether or not Beyonce writes her own songs. It's about the whole principle of ... oh, no, I'm sorry, you're absolutely right.

How could I have got it so very wrong.

Now that I come to think of it, how could I ever have doubted the integrity of artists as astonishingly gifted as The Spice Girls, Avril Lavigne, Lauryn Hill ...

Hi mate

Yo jump to conclusions too early.
First record of Destinys Child, they only cowrote 2 songs.
Second they co written and co produced majority.
Beyonce dropped all the producers and went on to write the whole of SURVIVOR with 2 exceptions, their most succesful album. She wrote all the lyrics, herself, and co produced, mainly vocals.
She wrote Dangerously in love when she met Jay.
By the time I..Am was released she admitted that she wanted to sing songs written by various songwriters .
Personally I think its due to the fact that people write the best songs when eighter down( Survivour) or in love (Dangerously in Love).
When their life is stable they have not much to write about hence need to dip to others\' songs.

It is known that the best albums of any artist are written during some sort of turmoil wether good or bad.

Beyonce wrote all the songs in early career but I think she is more relaxed now.

Her great song was Through with Love from destiny Fulfilled. Kelly looked at Beyonce and winked stating IT WAS WRITTEN TO PERFECTION, meaning Beyonce wrote it to perfection and its a beautiful song.

Please do not make false statements before you know the truth.

And yes I do know someone who worked for the recording studios Bey used, and knows it inside out love.
LOL
