Freekly and the new Wire

Author:

Had a great night Monday at Hix’s Chop and Oyster House where the contributers of RPB gathererd round to hear about an interesting new venture called Freekly. It was also great seeing some familar and beautifully ravaged faces.

I am quite happy to embrace any new idea that offers the prospect of a pay cheque and this looks like one of those simple but potentially effective innovations that could just do that.I never fail to get frustrated at how resistant the music buisness is  to change.Anything new is regarded as a potential threat to it’s very existence; it’s been like that since I got involved in 1972.

While the porno industry embraces and adapts to technology like a waterbound duck the music buisness panic, stutters and farts with each change like a bunch of addled cast members of  Dads Army with dementia .It didn’t suprise when I looked at the esteemed gathering at the RPB soiree that there were very few women, ethnic minorities or young people. They’ve all probably completed there media courses and got involved in some new fangled technology in cybersvile.

Me,I’m proud to be a part of the old guard.I’m strictly analogue with a few valves thrown in but at the same time I’m always open to offers, you can download me anytime, baby.

On a more joyous note.Has anyone caught the repeats of the fantastic new French law and order drama called Spiral? It’s definitely a healthy methadone  substitute for people clucking from the demise of The Wire.

But just imagine pornorgraphy featuring music journalists. What category would that go under?
Hey,times are tough. If it was an option I’d seriously think about it.

  1. Ah, so that’s what the Chop House wing-ding was all about. However can someone please tell me what Freekly actually is and how it works? I got an unexpected e-mail originating from such a source and, suspecting it linked to unmitigated and possibly virus-bearing spam, went no further than to reply asking the above questions… after which I heard nada.

I think we should be told.
