Saw Golden Earring at the weekend and they were bloody fantastic.The audience was a healthy mixture of old and new fans.It was their first show in the UK in thirty years and a triumphant return.
Can anyone think of other bands who have made a heroic comeback from the wilderness, featuring the original line up?
The Only Ones are my other nomination.

The Sex Pitols made a heroic comeback but whether it was worth hearing is entirely another matter.
* Does Asia count? (wink)
* What about the Police? Seemed like they were mostly going through the motions by the time I saw them at Giants Stadium in August ’07…
* I did like the Cream reunion, regardless of the mixed reviews it got. Paid a pretty penny for floor seats near the mixing board at Madison Square Garden in New York in October ’05, but it was totally worth it to me, who (sorry lads) wasn’t old enough to have seen them during their heyday. Perhaps the improv/urgency/trainwreck factors weren’t as present as they were during the glory days, but that night’s set suited me just fine.
* How about the Velvet Underground’s European victory lap circa MCMXCIII? I’ve got the officially released audio and video, of course, but who actually got to see it? Thoughts?
