Roky and Planty!

Author:

Has anyone ever noticed the timbral similarity between the voices of Roky Erickson and Robert Plant? Not entirely surprising, given Plant’s love of garage-psych but seldom remarked upon nonetheless. Leads me to propose a list of “larynxes separated at birth”, e.g. Al Stewart and Neil Tennant, Howlin’ Wolf and Captain Beefheart (and Tom Waits)… oh well, just thought I’d mention it!

Reggie Youngblood of Black Kids sounds he’s got a few vocal cord genes in common with Robert Smith of The Cure.

Here’s another one – or rather, a kind of lineage: Roger McGuinn to Elliott Smith via Alex Chilton and Green Gartside! I know it sounds weird, but listen to Elliott (e.g. ‘Going Nowhere’ on NEW MOON), suspend disbelief for a second, and it could be Green singing!
